Magui’s success story with more energy, weight loss and clarity of mind

[00:00:31] Sydney: That is quite a title. And I have so many questions already and I can’t wait to get started. Nikki, you wanna introduce us to Maggie?

[00:00:38] Nikki: Absolutely. So this is gonna be a really long introduction just to warn you guys, because I love this girl and we’ve known each other for a really long time. Um, Maggie and I met as soft. Wars in high school and my life has never been the same. Um, and we’ve stayed. We’ve stayed really, we’ve stayed. Like I don’t really keep in touch with anyone from high school.

[00:01:05] I probably have one other person that I keep in touch with, but for some reason, Maggie and I just, we, we kept in touch and, um, she was a Catholic at the time. and I, I ended up, I invited her to come to church and, uh, it was. From that first invitation to come to church. Was it like five years after that, that you got baptized

[00:01:29] Magui: Yeah. Yeah. Well, no, six, it was six because I, well, yeah, I had graduated college and I had been two years after that, so yeah, six years.

[00:01:40] Nikki: so Maggie and I have a lot of connections on a lot of different levels. She, she got baptized as a member of the church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints. And then her family followed her and it was a Rocky Rocky road and she was just the trailblazer. She’s a trailblazer in many different ways.

[00:01:59] And. Um, you guys are gonna get to know her and a lot about how she operates in this, in this podcast. And you’re gonna love her as much as I do. So, but I wanna say too, because we are so close, like family, really, I consider this success story, 10 X, a 10 X success story, because in my experience, it is really rare.

[00:02:25] To be able to work with someone that’s so close and to also have so much success. Usually the people that are the closest to you are the ones that are the hardest to convert. at least that’s. I mean, that’s been my experience with my own family. Like it’s like the people that are the closest to you.

[00:02:44] They’re like, nah, I don’t think so. I, I don’t think that I don’t think that’s gonna work. But with, so that’s why I feel like the success story is 10 X, because Maggie, as I’ve said before, and as you will find out is the exception to every rule . And so along those same lines that the disclaimer is that Maggie was all in.

[00:03:10] All in, this is 10 X because she is close to me. But also she was all in from like the first second that we started, our initial consultation, her commitment was through the roof. It was super high. And unlike Kim from episode 70, this was the first time that Maggie and I were working together at me as the coach and her as the client.

[00:03:32] And so the fact that her success was. Quick and was so all encompassing is because of her commitment. So I just, I wanna tell you guys that, and if you wanna have the same results in your life, then get to know how committed Maggie was, because that’s where it comes from. So let’s hear from her Maggie tell us about you.

[00:03:58] What was going on in your life health wise when you decided that you needed to start making some change?

[00:04:03] Magui: Well, I wanna preface a, a couple of things before I go into any of the, any of the aspects where you have helped, because I mean that that’s, it would take two or three podcasts to go through that. But one, I never considered myself as a person with a pioneering spirit. Or a desire to like be on the forefront.

[00:04:26] I’m usually a really awesome follower, but it has to be on my terms. So that makes me pretty headstrong. But in the end, once I commit, yes, I’m a, I’m a hundred percent in and I think it’s because I wanna get the most out of my experience. And the only way to do that is to be all in. So, when I commit to something it’s because there’s verifiable and visible, like, like excitement from other people. So I want to witness that other people are just as excited. and have, have witnessed for themselves the, you know, just the, the beauty of, of whatever it is that they’re committing their time and efforts to.

[00:05:11] So it doesn’t matter in what aspect, whether it’s spiritual, physical, uh, social. Um, if I find that people are enthusiasts and they’re willing to kind of push me along, I think that just makes me even more motivated to. To pursue it. So I was grateful, um, to have found you guys and, and listened to your podcast because there was verifiable and excitement about, you know, like.

[00:05:44] Really truly committing to a healthful lifestyle. Now I’ve been experimenting with lifestyle changes for a long time. Starting with my own spiritual journey is a huge lifestyle change. But for me, I was just tired and in pain and no matter like what I committed to in terms of like health and taking care of my health.

[00:06:07] It just seemed really hard and I would back pedal and stop doing it, and then I’d have to recommit to something else because I was like, well, that didn’t work. So let me try something else. So in terms of like diets and exercises and all that kind of stuff, I was on the same yoyo that everybody’s in. And so you keep grasping for different things when you really have to just dig deep. And so there was a lot of chaos underneath that I hadn’t dealt with and there were fundamental things that were wrong in my way of thinking about health that I needed to like dig deeper.

[00:06:46] And so for me, I felt. Oh, I can’t get my family to do this, or I’m just too busy or there’s all these external things that you think are affecting you in making correct decisions in your life. But then really what it comes down to is I needed to slow down. I needed to unearth what it was deep down in inside of me and my core to, to really bring it out and be like, oh, okay.

[00:07:15] I need, I need something more. I need something bigger. I need something better. And so for me, when I thought of, of you guys and what you were doing, I was like, I thought it was just like, you know, habits. I thought you were changing habits, but you’re not, you’re literally changing people from the inside out, just with the most basic things such as chewing, you know?

[00:07:37] Like you never think, Hey, chewing your food. Like really? Like I chew my food. I know it. But when you start to think about it, then you. No, I’m not really chewing my food. No, I’m not really like being mindful, um, a mindful eater. And so how do I fix that? And I couldn’t do that by myself.

[00:07:57] Sydney: So I love hearing that. That’s amazing. And I’m kind of curious if there’s anything that like any details you have where you felt like. L like when I started my health journey, I still have this checklist. I’m like, I have this checklist of things that I’m like, I don’t think that my body was made to be experiencing this.

[00:08:16] Are there things that you have that were kind of like, I know that this isn’t the way it’s supposed to be. You know what I mean? Like the things that you’re like, these are my goals. I really wanna work on X, Y, Z.

[00:08:25] Magui: Yeah, I was just tired all the time and I would have moments where I wouldn’t be tired, but then I wouldn’t be able to figure out like, okay, what, what did I do that made me feel so good? and so, or was it only food or was it all emotional? So I, I felt like a lot of my chronic fatigue. Um, it was more than just food.

[00:08:51] It was more than just like, I can’t, what is this? I can’t digest anything. How is this gonna function for me? And so I was like, this isn’t right. 

[00:09:00] I felt good. I felt good before, but it was like fleeting. Like it was just never consistent. It was never. Ah, I, I mean, I would have two good days and then three down days and then three good days. And then a week long period of just trying to recuperate, because when I would feel good I would overdo it cuz I’d be like, oh, this feels so good.

[00:09:23] I have so much energy. I can, I can do all the things that I wanted to do. But then at the end of the day, it was like, it would take me days to recover from those days of like labor. And so, I just didn’t wanna feel tired anymore. Like I, I wanted to not have these massive crashes multiple times a day, where it would take me two hours to recover just to get up and get moving.

[00:09:49] And so I just didn’t wanna feel like that. And then the amount of pain that I would be in randomly, um, my hands hurt. My neck hurts, like. Like my, I, people would look at me like I had three eyes and I would tell them I can’t move my neck after I eat certain things. Like, I, it just felt like I slept wrong on it, you know?

[00:10:11] And then I’d realize, oh, this is a digestive issue. And so, but why was I having digestive issues? I don’t know. Like, I just, wasn’t willing to kind of the, the amount of research and time and, and try, you know, trying things was just too overwhelming for me to even deal with it.

[00:10:28] Sydney: So that we wanna hear more about that, actually. So it sounds like you were really, you were surviving totally, but you just didn’t feel like you were thriving. You had a lot of, you had a lot of energy some days. Well, at least portions of the days, and then a lot of recovery time and kind of like getting things done, but really paying for it.

[00:10:47] Magui: Yes.

[00:10:48] Sydney: so I wanna hear next. What is it that you tried to solve these problems on your own? Like what, what experiences did you have? Cause I’m sure you knew this was not normal, so I’m sure you were just going with like, okay, let’s try this. Let’s try this. Tell, tell us more about that. How did you try to solve these problems?

[00:11:03] Magui: I mean, first it started with, I had a conversation with a friend about like, just not being able to digest things and like always having. Histamine issues like itchy ears and dry eyes and constant congestion after eating. And she says, oh, it sounds to me like you have a Canda problem. And I’d never heard a Canda.

[00:11:23] This is like back when I was 25 years old. And I was like, oh, I have no idea what that is. And she’s done holistic stuff before. And she’s like, sounds like a beta issue. So of course, like back then, I just went online and Googled Canita problems. And then I found. Canda Canda diet that would help reduce candida I’ve since learned that that’s not how you do it.

[00:11:46] And so then I did an elimination by myself with no support, no supplements, no nothing. I was just like, okay, this is how I’m gonna eat. And it was the hardest 12 weeks of my life. I committed to it for 12 weeks, which they’re like, no, these things are supposed to be done, you know, in a shorter period of time.

[00:12:04] So you’re you’re, you just don’t know a whole lot. And so I did it and I had the worst and scariest experience I’ve ever had in my life. After being on the diet for about three, four weeks, I went to go visit my in-laws and it jump started. Die off. What I know now is a die off because I didn’t know what to expect.

[00:12:28] I wasn’t looking for, Hey, if I’m on this diet, what are the potential? You know? And so I had a terrible die off experience. And for two days I was throwing up and I was on the toilet, like throwing up and diarrhea. Everything was liquid, everything that was coming out of me was liquid. And I didn’t understand why, you know, and I, you know, now I.

[00:12:53] What I know because of the experiences that I went through. But I, that was the jump start for it. And then after those two days, I woke up on the third day. Like, it’s so funny that it was three days on the third day I woke up and I felt like I was alive again. and I could no ringing in my ears. No clogged, anything, no dry eyes.

[00:13:16] It was like everything. Had been solved, but I would never do it that way ever again, ever again. So my, my, my, my mind was like, okay, but if I need to do that on a regular basis, how do I do it? How do I get the support? And back then at 25 was when all of these nutritional. Therapist therapy program started popping up on the internet, Hey, sign up for nutritional therapy and do all these things.

[00:13:44] And I discovered we a price and I discovered Sally Fallon and I discovered, and so I was doing all of these things, making my own yogurt, fermenting my own foods. And then I just felt like it was just, I did it for three years. Everyone in my family hated me and I just kind of gave up and then after that it was well, can I do supplements?

[00:14:05] And can I do this? And I never found anything that really. Ever. And so I was like, okay, then I’ll try whole food plant based. And I’ve tried raw egoism. I’ve tried juicing. And it just felt like everything was just making my symptoms worse. So I would feel good for a period of time. And then I’d go downhill again.

[00:14:24] And I’m like, it’s is it because it’s too dramatic of a change? So I wasn’t sure. What exactly it was that I was doing that was helping. But then I didn’t also didn’t know like what was making it worse because I didn’t understand physiology. I didn’t understand how it worked. And I was not willing to go through a nutritional therapy program.

[00:14:45] Like you guys I was like, it’s a year long commitment and I knew that it was gonna be hard. And more that I could handle at that time in my life. I was like, but I just wanna feel better. So I don’t know. I don’t know exactly how that’s gonna end up happening for me. So, and I didn’t have verifiable proof that working with a nutritional therapist was gonna be the answer because it’s, it can be very expensive.

[00:15:10] So, and for me at that time in my life, we were just kind of starting out in our marriage. And I was like, I don’t know if I can afford that. Cause I had been to functional therapy. I had done acupuncture. I have done. Um, all sorts of stuff like cupping and massage and you know, like spa stuff, you know, all the woo woo things.

[00:15:29] Woo, woo. We all know that it all works together and you can’t just work it, you know, an individual stints, like I can’t just do acupuncture and acupuncture will solve everything or I can’t just function, you know? So I had to figure out on my own and it took me to.

[00:15:49] Here I am.

[00:15:51] Nikki: But that’s amazing though. You’ve done so much and you’ve had success. Like that’s the cool thing about it is that you have had success. You’ve seen, you’ve seen the possibilities of what the body was capable of doing, but you just needed, you needed to, to be able to put it all together in a simple way that you could integrate your family into doing too.

[00:16:14] Magui: Yes. And, and it wasn’t so overwhelming. It just seemed so overwhelming because again, I was doing so much so fast and I wasn’t giving myself time to kind of process and just like, it’s like, it’s like the whole line upon line again. It’s like we have to start with one very basic concept. And then once you.

[00:16:38] Strengthened your conviction of doing that one thing, why chewing changed my life? Like I would’ve never thought that chewing my food would change my life. It changed my life. It changed my mind. It changed my understanding of the natural processes of the human body and how we are neglecting and overlooking simple processes that could solve so many issues, because we think that doing all of these other external things are gonna solve our problems, but it can’t because your foundation isn’t strong.

[00:17:12] And so the foundation of eating is chewing and it literally changed my life.

[00:17:16] Sydney: We’re gonna make, we’re gonna make a bumper sticker. Now that says chewing changed my life.

[00:17:21] Magui: Yeah, it totally did. It totally did.

[00:17:26] Nikki: my gosh. So take us, take us to that moment, Maggie. You’re about, you’re almost there. You’re talking about chewing, but like you’ve, you’ve, you’ve walked us through this journey that you’ve had, like since your twenties, and now we’re at the moment where you start working with me as a nutritional therapist.

[00:17:42] So ha take us to the moment that you realize that this approach was actually working for.

[00:17:47] Sydney: working for you.

[00:17:48] Magui: Well, I just loved that talking to you. It wasn’t like a list of todos. Not at least not right off the bat. As I got stronger, then you gave me harder to-do lists. Right. But when I first started, it is just like, no, I just want you to be mindful. Like, I just need you to stop and like really take into consideration what you’re putting in your mouth.

[00:18:12] But then that got me thinking are the things that I’m putting in my mouth even worth. And so I would make sure then that started changing the way that I S. And so chewing my food changed the way that I shopped. And so then you go step by step by step. 

[00:18:29] And now you’re like, okay, let’s, let’s bring health back into my life. And the way that I do that is by me doing my part and being mindful about what I’m, how you know, how I’m consuming these foods and what I’m consuming. And then you go to the next level, which is how can I support my digestion?

[00:18:46] How do I restore? What, what once was and the process of restoration, you start getting clarity of mind. You start feeling, you start gaining a, a better understanding and a conviction.

[00:18:59] Of the things that you’re doing. And so you’re more committed and so you’re more excited. You’re like, okay, let’s add on. Let’s add on. Let’s add on until you get to the point where it’s almost automatic and you don’t even have to think about it anymore. And so that is the new, that is what a nutritional therapist does.

[00:19:16] That’s what they do. They, they take it from the most fundamental things that you never thought would help you. And then they help you fine tune to the point where it becomes like a natural part of you. And you’re, that’s what your body is asking for. Like, my body tells me and I feel completely secure with what my body is telling me.

[00:19:33] I don’t doubt myself anymore. Like I used to like, I don’t second. Guess it now. I’m like, okay, what, what am I looking for?

[00:19:40] What, what does my body need?

[00:19:42] Sydney: That’s such a great description of the journey. It’s such a great description and I like how you end it with it just starts to become automatic, cuz that’s, that is the benefit. The biggest reason for working with somebody that knows how to really support your physiology and your, and your brain too, is that they help you through.

[00:20:03] The hard part and then it becomes automatic. And, and I, so I wanna know, um, when did you like notice it was working? When did you, you know, so you’re going through this process, you know, was it six months later, you know, one month later, two weeks later, like what, what was, what did you start noticing? You’re like, oh, this is, this is working. said chewing changed your life. Like

[00:20:29] Magui: I, I mean, I get goosebumps when you ask that question because it was, I would say every week. I would see progress. So right from the get go right from the get go, I just started feeling peace, like peace about everything I was doing. And so you’re like, okay, I’m gonna continue. And so for me, that was ultimately. What kept me going each and every week. Is that something different? Would, I would have a change every week in something. 

[00:21:02] Nikki: So you’ve been telling us so many amazing details about, and I bet all of you guys listening are like, are you sure she’s not a nutritional therapist? Cause she just has so, so much knowledge and she’s, she’s able to, to capture it and explain it in a way that definitely, definitely sounds like a nutritional therapist, hopefully that’s in your future max, but tell us more about you were talking about at the beginning that your energy you’re just so tired and all the recovery days and it wasn’t steady.

[00:21:33] Walk us through, has anything changed and when did it change with your energy?

[00:21:36] Magui: My hope was to be able to find, you know, the root issue of, my tiredness and my aches and pains in my inability to function. I was hoping to gain a more clear understanding of how the things that we put into our bodies, like truly like affect us in our mood.

[00:21:57] So the, the things that I saw improve, um, less bloated and gassy, um, I always had poop that floated. and it was oily. So I knew that I had a fat digestion issue, so I don’t know if that’s too much information, but I think people would find it really helpful because I find it helpful. And then there was all this plethora of things. That I experienced back then that I am not experiencing now. Like I feel supported. Sustained. I don’t feel chronically tired. And that is huge. I mean, another big change is my mindset on what things am I doing?

[00:22:39] Because culturally I’ve been told are the right things to do, like making sure that you’re eating all the time. I don’t feel like I need to eat all the time. And I mean, my, my body is telling. These things that I need to be consuming. 

[00:22:53] Um, and now I’m just like, again, we are happy. Like I am happy knowing that I don’t have to eat all the time. I don’t wear deodorant anymore because I realize you don’t need it when you are. Not decaying inside. it’s like, if you’re eating well and you don’t produce odors, like you would think, you know, odors are another indication of something that is off in your body, 

[00:23:22] but I can’t figure that out because I don’t have that knowledge, but I can tell Nikki about it. I can journal about it and she could be like, well, let’s try this, you know, let’s try this. Maybe we need to work on this. And then all of a sudden. Miraculously. It’s exactly what, what she prescribed, you know, and I’m just like grateful.

[00:23:39] so, um, again, one of the big things for me is respiratory. I always had really bad respiratory issues. My histamine issues are clearing again. and then, um, my aches and pains were fewer and fewer Like, I didn’t feel like, you know, like it was Defor and then overall, like, I was just happy.

[00:24:03] I was just happy. I would wake up happy. And so I was like, obviously there’s some chemical that’s affecting me here and I’m just happy to be happy. And then, you know, we started like really fine tuning, really fine tuning and really eliminating. 

[00:24:24] Which was a great elimination, which was so eye opening and so wonderful. And I never thought I would actually enjoy it because I love food. I love food. It was nice to be able to go back to the very, very basics, the foundation of like what, how we’re composed, like the proteins and the fats.

[00:24:46] I love fats and fats changed my life after the chewing stuff. And you don’t even have to chew fat very much. so that’s been the biggest change. I think I’m just happy and I feel balanced. So it makes me happy that I feel totally in control of my, of my choices. That’s what it is. I’m in control of my choices.

[00:25:10] Sydney: What a wonderful, like what a wonderful experience. I’m so grateful. To hear it and to see it happen again, like every time we’re, we’re talking with a client and their life is changing they have such a impact on other people. So thank you for sharing with, with the people that are listening.

[00:25:32] They’re, they’re probably experiencing a lot of things that they feel out of control. Like they can’t make changes. I, I want to just tell the people that are listening, that we know that you’re struggling with something. And I don’t know anybody who isn’t struggling with. Similar things that Maggie was talking about.

[00:25:52] Energy is a big one, uh, weight loss issues, focus and clarity. what I know and what we know is that your body has this incredible potential to feel well, to have amazing energy, to lose weight easily, to feel comfortable in your own body and, and the pathway to wellness.

[00:26:12] It can never bypass these tools. Of nutritional therapy. You cannot bypass these tools. You can’t, you can’t, you can’t use pills, even the best multivitamin to outrun effects of lifestyle. The things we take into our brain, the things we take into our mouth, the, um, the ideologies that we subscribe to, like, like for so long, we’ve been told that fat is bad and you’re like, I love fat.

[00:26:34] Fat has changed your life. And it, and it really does. I think that’s why everybody’s struggling is because they think that fat’s bad.

[00:26:40] Nikki: And really quick, Maggie, I don’t sorry, really quick about the fat. So you’re eating a lot of fat and does have you put on weight from eating all of this fat?

[00:26:48] Magui: Are you kidding me? Look at me. Like I don’t have any, like, I’m usually swollen. Like I have really like chubby cheeks. Most of the time I’m really like full in my face. 

[00:26:58] Sydney: When I try to coach people on this concept about, you need to eat more fat, you need to eat more protein. They think, well, protein bars, I’m like no, like animal protein.

[00:27:10] And, and when you consider what a human body is made of. It is fats it’s proteins and it’s minerals. It’s all things that we get from animal products and, and that we don’t. So the, the carbohydrates, they have their own place in, in whole food form. They have their own place in whole food form, but it doesn’t make your body up.

[00:27:30] It’s fuel. It has some, some other stuff that could be good for, for many bodies. but it’s not what builds your body. And if you’re trying to rebuild a healthy body, you need to have animal products in your life. Like you can’t avoid that,

[00:27:44] Magui: Yeah.

[00:27:45] Sydney: which I love.
